I know this one guy that is a 8th degree black belt in kenpo as well as pancration (really old school grappling) ,he's pretty ripped and buff but always wears big clothes so you can't really tell.I always thought he was just some dork but when we were at a bar and some guys were picking on a girl,my friend intervined and ended up beating up all three guys with only a few hits, then they ran. Most of the time he is this quiet, anxious and seemingly insecure person. Is it really a ploy? or is it just because she is a master martial artist doesn't mean that he may have other issues? It's just intriguing to me,you'd never think someone like that could kick so much butt lol.
Why do some people fawn weakness or humbleness?
Wow. First of all, that's really cool.
But martial artists are supposed to have huge self-confidence....
humble, but with confidence.
Maybe he has an emotional weakness from family that gives him the "shy dorky" quality.
Reply:I'm guessing that you have your own preconceived view of how a martial arts master should behave.Just because someone is quiet and dorky in no way means that they couldn't destroy you in a fight.I've noticed that in most cases the person that looks really tough, the one that no one wants to fight because of how they look, those are the ones that would be demolished in a real fight.
People that know that they are excellent fighters don't need to put on the persona of a tough guy because they don't need it.

Think I may have a knee injury...?
I was grappling w/ a friend of mine the other day and I went to push my foot off of his leg and as soon as my leg extended completely, I felt a pop in my knee. It's not unusual for my knees to pop, but this one was kinda painful. I haven't been able to fully extend it w/out it hurting since. It feels better on a daily basis, but the pain still persists when I stretch it completely out or in to sit on my foot. (can't sit on my foot at all right now) Any ideas on what this may be?? does it sound like just a sprain or something I should have an orthepedic doc check out??
Think I may have a knee injury...?
Yes, you should definitely get a referral to an orthopedic specialist.
There are several different types of knee injuries from cartilage (meniscus) tears to ligament tears. Popping sounds are very typical of ligament rupture. In your case, a hyperextension of the knee and symptoms you mention would likely indicate an injury to the anterior cruciate ligament. I ruptured mine as well and the popping sound was very evident. These ligaments do not heal and you will require corrective surgery and reconstruction. You are best to seek a professional opinion immediately as simple orthopedic tests can help diagnose the type of injury you may have.

Reply:It is potentially just a sprain but I would be worried about your meniscus (cartilage pad within the knee) or potentially the ACL (anterior cruciate ligament). Sometimes with full extension or flexion you can cause a tear in the meniscus. These sometimes can be taken care of with physical therapy but quite often they will require surgery (its through a scope and is outpatient). If it is the ACL, this usually requires reconstruction (also through a scope and outpatient). This is not an emergency so you don't need to rush to see a doctor but I would recommend seeing a sports medicine specialist (orthopedics or primary care sports).

What are the different types of martial arts ?
After studying Kenpo Karate, Goju Karate, Kung Fu, Hapkido and Tae Kwon Do for the past 22 years, I have to say that TKD is my favorite. Kung Fu is a close 2nd.
Here is a synopsis of some different martial arts with more detail.
Aikido - uses opponents momemtum and strength against them, redirecting the force, instead of blocking the force. Never engaging strength against strength. Aikido is very defensive.
Judo - Olympic sport, opponents are more engaged with eachoter and try to use leverage and balance to throw their opponent. Judo is closer to wrestling, there are no punches, no kicks, all throws. You are mostly standing until you are thrown. After a throw, you usually get back up and start over.
Ju-Jitsu (Brazilian and Japanese) - Brazilian ju-jitsu is more of a grappling, ground fighting system, where the object is to submit your opponent through joint locks (such as an armbar or kimura) or you can choke your opponent out by getting in a dominant position and using a combination of your arms and or legs to choke them (triangle choke uses legs, rear choke uses arms). Your opponet "taps", to signal his submission and the match is over.
Karate - Karate originates in Okinawa, but many styles were adopted and modified in Japan. There are many different types of Karate (Shotokan, Gen-wa-ki, Kempo, Kenpo, Kyokoshin, Goju, Isshin-Ryu). Karate also usually incorporates weapons training into it's system using the traditional Budo weapons (Staff, Nunchaku, Tonfa, Kama, Sai). Empty hand Karate utilized punches and kicks and the training usually involves serious "toughening" of your entire body.
Kendo is sword/stick fighting. They where a type of armor/face shield and fight with bamboo swords.
Tae Kwon Do - TKD is almost like 3 different martial arts. TKD comes from Korea. It is is an official Olympic sport and some TKD practitioners train exclusively in this version of the art. TKD is also a practical self defense system that it utilizes by the Korean military and secret police. It it often taught in conjunction with another Korean martial art called Hapkido, which uses small joint (wrist, fingers, ankles) manipulation and submission tactics. There are also different types of TKD, such as Moo Du Kwan or Han Mu Kwan. One of the unique things about TKD is that they have a global governing body that unifies all of the forms (Poomse or Kata) and standards required for promotion. So let's say you are a blue belt or "5th Geup" in Korea, you are learning the exact same form as a blue belt in California, or Europe, or anywhere else in the world. TKD is also unique in that it's ratio of kicking techniqes to hand techniqes is about 80% kicking to 20% hand techniques.
Tai Chi - Tai Chi is Chinese in origin. Although Tai Chi can be used in self defense, it is primarily used as exercise around the world. It is believed by many that there are many unexplainable health benefits in practicing Tai Chi. The Chinese believe that all life has an inner force called "Chi". Tai Chi is a means of channelling and releasing one's Chi and therefore reaping the benefits.
The concept of Chi is not exclusive to Tai Chi. It is part of all types of Chinese Kung Fu and is known as "Ki" in Japanese and Korean martial arts. The concept is typically considered part of all traditional martial arts.
Which one to try depends on your motivation, for example, self defense, exercise and fitness, or you wish to be in the UFC. My advice is to check out different places and take trial classes. Find an instructor you like and a place you enjoy going to, and the style really becomes secondary.
Hope this helps....

Erotic Circus Novel?
I'm grappling with a book concept about an erotic, pansexual travelling circus, set in the early 1900's. I've crafted a fine set of strong and unique, quirky characters, and I know the exact mood I want to create. Everything, in fact, is laid out except for the plot.
I know that I want my protagonist to be quiet, self-contained, more of an observer of everything that goes on until she is finally compelled to act. And I want something intense and dramatic- tangled, really- but my mind is drawing a blank. Love triangles and murders seem cliched.
Can anyone help me brainstorm?
Erotic Circus Novel?
Perhaps your heroine could be the ringmaster...since ringmasters were always men in those days, she is in disguise...pretending to be a man...but secretly in love with....? Let me know what you come up with...E.
Reply:a midget with a penis on top of his head
but he wears a hat to cover it sometimes.
Reply:Put a 350lb lady in a bra and thong and have her running after a piece of cake being dangled on a string.....come on now....
Reply:Here's an idea
Give your character a domineering antagonist, and have him/her try to force your character into something she doesn't want to do. Like, the antagonist could be pushing the character into a relationship she isn't comfortable with. Since your character is quiet, at first she'll be a little afraid to protest, untill she's pushed too far. Then she suddenly has to act.
That's not much of a plot, but maybe you could build on it.

Boxing or Martial Arts?
I currently wrestle. In an amatueur level. with friends. I mean like the grappling Greek wrestling... not the WWE.
I want to start either a form of Martial Arts or proper Boxing Training. I also box currently... but only for fitness means. I have no idea about technique.
So which would you choose? Martial arts or Boxing? I suppose I could be adequete at Karate or Taek-won-do. I know I have a boxers physique... but i don't want to limit myself to one style.
Is there a style of fighting which combines the essentials of both sports? I'd love to know one... to combine both passions.
Also... I'm 14. As I've been boxing for a while... I know I'm decent... and can be fairly formidable in later years. But As most kids start martial arts at -10 years I've been wondering if I should dedicate myself to it... because I can't stand to fail. So do you think I'm too old to start or not.
PS:I'll still do it even if I'm too old. I just won't dedicate myself to it and will stick to boxing
Boxing or Martial Arts?
So far it sounds like you have had no formal training.
You like to wrestle, and apparently like the fitness aspects of boxing.
At 14 you aren't too young to start MMA. My advice would be to look for a nearby MMA school, where you can learn proper boxing, wrestling, kickboxing, and submissions.
14 is not too old to start anything (except for Olympic Gymnastics).
If you wish you could start any Martial Art that you deem worthy of your time or that you really like.
However, if you are a driven and you like the competetive aspect of things, I would join an MMA school, and look to wrestle next year in High School. There you can get some serious fitness, and with MMA learn boxing and many different forms of striking, as well as how to put it together with your wrestling (and actually get solid wrestling technique and fundamentals so that you end up dominating your friends with ease).
Also with proper training (MMA allows you to train and spar realistically in many areas, instead of just striking, or just grappling, a good MMA school will have specialists in each that can instruct you properly, and help with any bad habits you may have already developed).
Between Martial Arts and boxing, it is toss up to me. It depends on the Art. I prefer Martial Arts where there is solid sparring, and train in an alive manner. I also prefer Arts that can provide some exposure to tournaments and competetions, as they give me exposure to testing my skills under adrenaline based situations against similarly skilled opponents. I want full contact, the ability to spar with intensity, and opponents who are trying to win against me, not just throw half @ssed punches or kicks.
In short, I want something that trains in an alive manner.
http://www.straightblastgym.com/alivenes...
Boxing is great, however it is limited. Wrestling is great, again it is limited, but both are great for fitness and great for effectiveness. I think that if you can find a place that combines both of them (such as MMA) and allows you to spar full out, utlizing takedowns, strikes on the ground, and submissions, well then you are setting yourself up to be competent in each range of combat.
In either case if I can be of any help, feel free to email me with the link on my answers profile. Best of luck to you with whatever path you choose.
Reply:You are definetly not to old to start a Martial Art. I don't understand your question though. Are you looking only to pick up fighting skills to be in the ring like the UFC? If so I would recomend Muya Tai to go along with your wrestling. Are you looking for realistic self defense? Then you should go with a traditional martial art taught by an instructor that teaches it the right way. Too many people today see the sport karate, sport Tae Kwon Do, etc. and think that is what martial arts is. A real honest to goodness traditional martial arts class will teach you very effective self defense, including defense against weapons. It will teach you no holds barred stuff, for use on the street, but will also instill in you a desire to avoid fighting. No one style will teach you everything there is to know. Martial arts is a lifetime pursuit.
Reply:Well, first of all, I'd like to point out that boxing is a martial art. Boxing is a very good hand, but you need good legs as well to be a good all around fighter. I'd suggest Muay Thai. It uses both boxing and kicking. Since you already know wrestling, it will complement and add to your skills. You can also just take boxing, and then take Tae Kwon Do to add to you legs.
Reply:Maybe as you've already done some basic boxing for fitness it may be easy for you to get into. Having said that in Martial Arts, you learn far more techniques which are applicable many more fighting situations and not just in the boxing ring. For this reason I would say that Martial Arts would be better for you. Maybe Karate, Thai boxing. It would complement you re Wrestling experience greatly.

Reply:A martial art you will dedicate yourself to is the best one for you. Most of the good martial artist I know have been doing it more years than you have been alive. I know some who started in their 50's and some who started when the were 6 or 8 years old. TAek Wan Do is a good art and at your age if you work hard you could compete in the Olympics.
By the way it is no crime to lose a fight it is however a shame not to give everything you do your best.
You are certainly not to old to start any of the popular martial arts.
Reply:I would have to say martial arts. I know 50 year olds that are only white belts, you just have to say that you do wrestling and they'll adjust to the right techniques for you.
Reply:Keep up the wrestling. It is probably pretty cost effective right now. I'd try some BJJ, kickboxing or boxing. But make sure not to get your parents suckered into a gym contract or paying alot.
**IF you want to go on the cheap, get kickboxing dvd's on overstock.com.
Reply:Martial Arts
Its great self-defense it someone comes at you or a Friend. You can block different types of attacks other than punches like kicks, knives, and polls.
I don't know about a style that combines both sports, maybe kick boxing? You are not too old to start, I know people who started as adults
Also, you said something about one style. You can do more than one fighting style. I know a few. There are even studios that teach several kinds. Also, if you go to a Martial Arts place, you should ask if they have seminars that incorporate different styles, I've been to a few. they're a great way of discovering new styles.
Also, in boxing (from what I understand) once you become old you usually become a coach. I went to a seminar once where the teach was late 60s early 70s and he was throwing these young guys around like they were pillow cases (and he didn't hurt any of them)!
Also, the whole thing about self-confidence and focus that you gain from Martial Arts is not a gimmick. And unless you do try and put in an effort you can fail at Martial Arts. It's all about what's inside of you. Besides, Martial Arts isn't really sports oriented.
I hope this helps you and I'm glad that you're taking an interest in Martial Arts =]

Also...

Escaping the mounted position?
When you have someone grappling you in the mounted position, what is the best way to escape from it?
Escaping the mounted position?
I prefer to try to pull yourself up just enough to slide your leg through just like you did in practise in High School wrestling and shoot out of it using a wrist lock or something to assist my attempt to shoot out.
Going to your hands and knees i think is worst than being on your back.
Reply:pull your knife on them
Reply:Most amateurs roll into fetal position, and from there try to stand up.
Seasoned grapplers however, will try to get half or full guard, and from then attempt submissions.
Reply:Buck like the wind!
I've heard of giving up your back to pull a rear escape too. Don't know how that would work in a traditional grappling situation.
Reply:http://www.combat-jujitsu.com/cjj/mount....
That is one of probably many you can do.
Reply:wrap around his midsection just under his arms and then try to roll onto your side, and if possible stand up or pull a guard on him
Reply:wait till he is leaning in , if he is a rookie he will , and then grab his arm bring your knees in all the way , and buck , he will fly over you. and then you can scramble and take his back and choke him out.
Reply:Well if your strong enough you could try the bump'n'roll to escape or perhaps even reverse it. Quickly jerk upwards like your trying to do that crazy back arch bridge thing to upset his balance then you roll him and yourself all the way over and you might even end up inside his guard position in the end
Reply:ok when escaping the mounted position, if you want to pull half guard work your elbows at the top of his knees and push them down to your legs. if you want to free your right leg, wrap your left leg around his leg and pull but lift so you can slip your right leg under and pull half guard, but you need to keep your right leg straight on the ground. another method, if he is riding high you can try to "buck" him off of you. you can get leverage by lifting your legs up to his back before trying to push him, but the point is catch him off guard and you can sweep and land in guard or even side mount if you buck him hard enough. its alot of information but i hope it helps
Reply:I usually find any decent opponent will not be bridged off, but I still buck like mad to disrupt them and create space in the mount so I can get a leg out %26amp; half-guard them.
Reply:If you cant use the Knee-elbow escape, bump hard so his hand(s) hits the ground, trap an arm, trap the same side foot, then bridge to that side hard as you can. follow through, you end up in his guard. posture up and start passing his guard right away.
These are basic escapes but they require lots and lots of practice. So drill them over and over. Also, work on not getting mounted in the first place. prevention is the name of the game.
Reply:From the street perspective.Put your thumbs in his eyes bite off his nose or ears grab his testicals and crush them .Any of those will get him off you .Any thing else is sport play and irrelavant in real life where your life may be at risk and he has buddies trying to put the boots to you.
Reply:Eye gouging/raking,skin attacks, pressure points, joint locks, arm locks/arm bar are all effective,as well.As long as your arms are free to block and attack, there are several options in addition to "bucking" and "rolling".

Disbelief in Doctors?
My grandma flew into town to visit me and the family, i am very close to my grandma and i love her to death. She is in great shape for her age, so we always play a little rough, like grappling but just for fun. But the day she flew into town, and arrived at our house, i immediately ran to my grandmother and gave her a big hug, and jokingly, i made the transition from a hug into a headlock. She was laughing so hard, and i think i put a little too much pressure on the tight headlock, and all of a sudden i hear this "crack", she immediately jumped back, and her chin and neck was twisted to such an extent that her chin was turned almost literally pass her shoulder. She looked in pain, but she kept saying "it's fine, it's fine, i'm okay," but she was saying this so i wouldn't feel guilty or worried. For the past five days. she has been on our guest bed and hasn't moved or eaten at all. i keep insisting her to see a doctor, but she doesn't believe in doctors. What should i do?
Disbelief in Doctors?
Tell her to get help or else you will put her in another headlock, JK, sorry:( A good massage to the back and neck would be better than the doctor though, maybe she will go for that. I got one for my neck and it was about 50$ but it was well worth it.
Reply:call an ambulance or another doctor to come to her.
Reply:You should call 911. This is very serious. I would check on her if she doesn't move any longer.
Reply:Call 911 and get an ambulance otherwise something could be seriously wrong.
Reply:She hasn't moved or eaten for 5 days? Is she breathing? Take her to the hospital, or call someone who can possibly make a house call.
Reply:Neck injuries aren't something to mess around with. I think she just doesn't want to go to the doctor and make you feel guilty - that, or she can't afford a doctor's visit? Either way, I think you should tell her that you won't relax and feel ok until she goes to get some medical attention. Remind her that spinal injuries are VERY DANGEROUS and should be handled immediately, and by a professional. In short, guilt her into going. ;)
Reply:if she's really not moving or eating, call 911 or take her to a doctor. this sounds serious.
Reply:Is she taking in any fluids? you said she was not eating, is that drinking as well? Is she getting up to go to the restroom? Talking? If she can turn her head, and feel her arms, hands, feet, and legs, it isn't a cervical injury that is life threatening. But certainly the "not eating part" means there is something wrong, even if it wasn't what you had done. Is she stubborn? if so, you have to trick her, if you don't want to call for an ambulance. I did that to mom before. She had broken her arm and shoulder and refused to go to a doctor, after three days had passed, I said ENOUGH, I saw her arm, and the swelling and bruising it was obvious it was broken, it actually (when I saw the x-ray) should have been a compound fracture, the bones actually over lapped each other! Now, grant it, you probably did hurt her neck in someway, but if it were broken, she would not be able to dress herself, roll over in bed, sit up to drink, walk to the restroom, etc.., so, getting to the trick part if it isn't nerve damage or a Fx, then tell her your taking her somewhere she'd like to go anyway, whatever she enjoys doing. My mom's was flea markets and yard sales and auctions. So, we told her we were taking her to an auction, an estate auction, she perked up, after we got her in the car, drove straight to emergency care, they took her asap, after the x-ray, doc said it was so serious he was sending us to the hospital, she needed to be admitted, and have her Fx set. She was mad at first but after she saw how bad it was, she was grateful. She is deceased now, but many times against her wishes I took care of her or made her go, I also used reverse psychology too a lot. I wish your grandma well. Try and see what all you can get out of her talking, to see if anything hurts or is numb. Good luck, I am sure you'll get her the help she needs. God Bless!
Reply:You'd better get her to a hospital and make a trip to the florist as well to bring her some flowers or something. You should know better than to play rough with an old woman like that...

What would be the best martial arts classes for me to take?
I'm looking to learn mostly self defence which makes me think I should go for karate. I would love to take krav maga but I can't find any nearby classes. I would also like to learn some grappling/wrestling type stuff. Not sure what would be the best for me that would cover alot of areas. Any help apreciated.
What would be the best martial arts classes for me to take?
Well its not so much the style you need to find on your case as you seem to be limited in the amount of places to choose from.
I would go out and check all the schools out their karate, kung fu, Ju jitsu, aikdio, judo, muay thai, and all the others you can find. Go to them, watch a class, try a class. talk to the teacher and make sure you feel comforatable with them and make sure they are legit, and you can do that by asking who their teacher was and their teacher back to the modern father of the style on Asia.
Good luck
Reply:I'd say that for practical self defense, wrestling type stuff would be the most effective. You'd probably only get a few seconds of fighting on your feet before you get charged or pinned down.
A lot of studios now are mixed martial arts, so you should ask about what sorts of techniques they teach. You might also want to learn about attackers with weapons as well.
Reply:Akido. The reason is that it shows a person grappling/wrestling submission holds. It teaches the person how to defend their self and how to disarm your attacker with the least amount of force needed. For 3 years you practice nothing but form, continuously. It takes 9 more to master it, but what the practitioner learns along the way is that the greatest enemy a person will fight is themselves. When you look for a sensei(teacher) look for one who is willing to take the proper time to instruct you on the style you're taking. Look for one you feel comfortable with and puts you at ease. Also, look for one who carries their self humbly.

Once again it is not the style it is the teacher of that style. If they are only in it for the money then go to another Dojo.I would go to each Dojo and set in on the class for at least a week before making your mind up to join or not.Because lets say you go in today, and they are not doing anything that sparks your interest. chances are that you will not go back and sign up. But if you go back the next time they have class they might doing some of the coolest things that you have ever seen. So go check them all out, but dont just go one time. Go for a week solid then make your mind up for the style you would like to take.

Muay thai + ???
I love sports where it's very violent and brutal. I wanna take muay thai. And another Martial art. That Is as brutal as Muay thai but can teach me other stuff like takedowns and Grappling. Any help?
Muay thai + ???
First of all, I'd love you to Email me for any martial arts help. Now here's the info:
Mixed Martial Arts is a bit too, well, mixed for me. It's too unorganized in my opinion, and is not much of an art.
Judo takes a bit to get advanced in, but you don't have to be super dedicated. It is almost all made of takedowns.
Jiujistu, there are 2 types of : the japanese and brazilian. The brazilian is more sparring. The japanese you might like since its a lot of locks and grappling. You would be surprised that the japanese jiujitsu rarely uses punches or kicks, and almost all of it is made of locks and a bunch of takedowns. If you like the Muai Thai style, krav maga which is an Israeli martial art is about the same, only more deadly in my opinion. Kenpo - another Israeli martial art - is a lot of agility and takedowns, and a bit of locks, but Kenpo is not really a martial art because in my opinion a martial art should be a way of life. Have fun.
Reply:MMA will teach you all that.
Reply:Judo and or Juijitsu
dey are mostly about throws nd take down nd locks it can be brutal, locks like the rear naked choke hold and throws dat makes dem fly right over your head
Reply:why dont you join amateur MMA? I'm sure there will be blood and guts spilled. Most of it will be yours of course.... but nonetheless.
Reply:Muay Thai is traditionally a standing up fighting style. It does not teach you how to take down or to grapple. You could study Muay Thai+Jujitsu at the same time! I suggest the best way is to go to Mixed Martial Art Academy to seek helps!
Reply:JUDO would be a good supplement to MUAY TAI
Reply:Hello, you can do Valetudo or MMA OR to mix Muay thai AND jiujitsu brasileiro , I prefer this last;cause it`s just what a fighter needs: The explosivity and fisical condition of Muay thai and the tecnics ans intellence of jiujitsu brasileiro, what else????
Greetings.

dey are mostly about throws nd take down nd locks it can be brutal, locks like the rear naked choke hold and throws dat makes dem fly right over your head
Greetings.
Mexican Muay Thai fighter.

Would you approve of a federal shield law for journalists?
"The Senate Judiciary Committee approved legislation Thursday to establish a federal shield law for journalists, but it faces obstacles to Senate passage.
The panel voted 15-2 to approve the bill (S 2035) by Arlen Specter, R-Pa., after grappling with several amendments offered by Jon Kyl, R-Ariz. The committee adopted some of Kyl’s amendments but rejected others.
Proponents of the measure say it is necessary to protect reporters who find it difficult or impossible to obtain vital information about official wrongdoing and other sensitive subjects unless they can promise their sources confidentiality. Opponents argue that a federal shield law could hamstring law enforcement officials seeking to prevent acts of terrorism or uncover unlawful leaks of classified information."

Bad idea..if they know if anything illegal will happen..they should be held resposible if they refuse to disclose what may happen that may be harmful to another person or community and can be stopped.
This opens the door for them to speak to anyone who may commit a crime and them not notify the authorities to prevent it.
Reply:Sounds like the GOP is still smarting over Woodward %26amp; Bernstein's expose of Watergate.
Reply:no! no! no! they WILL abuse it.
Reply:I'd prefer to see a reverse of that. I'd like a bill that hangs every journalist and anyone who gives government secrets away to them.
No, I'm apposed to this. There are security issues that should never be leaked and the people who leak them, including the journalist, should pay a price.
Reply:Leave it to the Democrats to support legislation that supports terrorists.
Reply:Federal protection for unmonitored private business?
That is a license to lie and not be held liable.
Sorry, no.
Reply:I would not give absolute protection to anyone, however journalists should be given as much protection about their sources as possible. Let's face facts, it's not journalists wondering the dumpsters of congress in order to find classified information that just happened to be thrown away, all classified information must come from somewhere so my guess is it comes from a person with enough clearance who wants the information out for public consumption. Why punish the journalist for providing the means of getting that information out?

If a pro kickboxer was to learn kung fu, would he beat MMA?
plz no answers about hard work. heres the situation: kung fu teaches grappling, joint locks, kicks, and i dont mean flashy forms but the base of kung fu that is not super flashy but uses tiger claws, elbows, knees... would this guy be able to beat a UFC fighter?
other Q: could he defend himself from a no rule life or death situation against a UFC fighter?
also, plz no answers like just kick him here, or chop him in the neck etc...
If a pro kickboxer was to learn kung fu, would he beat MMA?
I would learn to incorporate Jui Jitsu with it. Kung Fu's grappling is mostly done in a standing position.
I don't know what that guys talking about as far as the "limitations" of MMA. It's the most free style of fighting thats legal.
Reply:A professional kick boxer already been practicing kung fu its called mua thai and plus to much rules in the octagon so they should fly to thailand and see how good those MMA to me they can fight but their are bit to much limitations if i want to see an ultimate go to thailand and watch them fight it all out with no rules thats what i call ultimate fighting.
Reply:No he would not, kung fu ground skills are nowhere close to where they would need to be for a decent MMA-UFC fighter. Kung Fu is based around stand up striking. A kung fu fighter and Muay Thai fighter with equal training would go to Muay Thai fighter every time. A good BJJ fighter against any stand up only fighter would win 9-10 times.
Reply:no because if the fight went to the ground which is extremely probable he would have no clue what to do. it would be like an early ufc match
Reply:I gotta agree with everyone else here. If the fight goes to the ground, the Kung Fu fighter is poorly trained to deal with it. In addition, the fighter is not trained well enough to avoid the takedowns. This is the double whammy. The fighter isn't trained to avoid going to the ground, and isn't trained to fight once on the ground.
Reply:short answer - probably not. But this is due to the lack of traditional kung fu instructors and training that is available today. Most of the sparring you see EVERYWHERE is like a crappy form of kickboxing. It doesn't even look like kung fu! Even shaolin monks today, I hear, are mostly entertainers (but I don't know for sure).
If you change the question to "could someone beat an MMA/UFC fighter on the street with no rules if they received GOOD kung fu training," then I must say the answer is definitely yes. However this is probably not likely to happen because I have not seen a single skilled kung fu fighter besides my instructor (sifu). What does good kung fu look like you ask? Just like it does in Jet Li's modern movies. I know because I've seen it :D Also, you need to realize that MMA is HIGHLY restrictive in terms of what techniques they can or can't use. Although MMA and UCF has plenty of contact and looks like a brutal, bloody sport, it is still a sport nonetheless. Their mindset during punches and joint locks is to get the person to tap out. For example, where ever a UFC fighter will lock a person's arm out to get him into submission, a kung fu fighter will snap it without hesitation. Now you can easily say that the UFC fighter could do exactly the same thing, but the reality is that their mentality is not to kill, and it would be highly unlikely for them to emotionlessly snap someone's arm or break someone's knee in a street situation.
But like I said, these kind of kung fu fighters are rare, and it'd be one in a million to find an instructor capable of such training. People may believe it or not (most won't, but that's okay), but that is their choice to make : P

Reply:I'm going to answer how you don't want me to, because that's how it must be answered. MMA fighters are great only as far as their training is great. If they don't train, they loose. If you're talking someone who takes kung fu classes 3 days a week, and kickboxes another day a week, against an MMA guy who does some kind of floorwork, roadwork, sparring or bagwork every day... the MMA guy will win. No matter what, martial arts are about the quality of the individual. Maps are necessary, but are not the Territory. YOu need a map to get there, but once there, you can get back without one... Style is a roadmap, and is completely unnecessary once you learn the principles. After the principles, which are physical and therefore universal to human beings with 2 arms 2 legs 2 eyes etc... style can be dropped. (What Bruce Lee was alluding to... too bad most of his young students don't bother to learn a style in the first place, they have nothing to forget)
Reply:You better pray that MMA fighter is also afraid to fight on the ground. If not, you'd be in one sticky situation. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is a better supplement.
Reply:learn some BJJ too. a fighter has a chance to win during every fight. No fight is every 100% guaranteed. Look at the last CroCop fight against Gonzaga.
Reply:Not likely, a good MMA fighter would most likely take down the pro kickboxer/kung fu practicioner, and either ground and pound him, or submit him.
Let's not be delutional and see the facts, how many kung fu practitioners are currently fighting in the UFC?
none.
Now if you talk about San Shou, which is how kung fu has evolved for practical uses, then he might have a chance due to it's good standup and throws (it's similar to muay thai, but it enphasizes alot of throwing)
The answer to your second question is also unlikely, MMA fighters are very well-trained for both striking and grappling, they usually do very well in streetfights.

How to make a punching bag.?
What I am trying to do here is make my own Thai Boxing Heavy Bag. So I want it to be long like one, however I would like it to be heavier than most Thai bags out there. I have found quite a few that I would love to buy, but what can I say, if I can make something thats just as good for alot less money, that is the route I want to go.
I want the bag to be about 5 feet tall, the normal circumfrence of a boxing heavy bag, and weigh about 180 to 200 pounds. I would ofcourse use it to practice my Muay Thai, but I would also use it in similar fashion to a grappling bag, so it would need to be strong enough to be slammed on the ground and pounded on there as well.
I have a friend who works with upholstery for vehicles, so he has a wicked sewing machine for the thick and tough materials I know I will need. But he has never made one, so what I need to do is come up with the diminsions, suggested material, etc.
How to make a punching bag.?
I would use rice as the filling...pack it in as tight as possible
Reply:Why don't you measure one.
Reply:Some years ago i bought a large duffel bag, filled it with sand (lived near the ocean) and hung it from a suitable rafter. It was usable, but not as helpful as a "real" one. Plus, after a while the bag straps became "weary" -- a challenge there. Good luck :))
Reply:You can get a burlap sack and pack it as tight as possible with either hay or sawdust

Does anyone think that a boxer could last in the UFC???
seriously now, i've seen some closed questions about this. lets look at it in an objective light. first of all and most obvious, a boxer isn't gonna know what to do when someone shoots in on him. Also he's not gonna have any defense against holds or takedowns. Second, while some boxing fans are gonna cast derision on kicks, they have a lot longer range and the boxer is gonna get caught with leg kicks all day. Lastly there's a huge difference in the 4 oz. gloves used in the UFC and the 12 oz. gloves in boxing. There's alot of wrist support in those boxing gloves and none in the grappling gloves, a boxer would have to learn how to punch all over again,
Does anyone think that a boxer could last in the UFC???
About as likely as Floyd Mayweather returning a Roger Federer serve. These sports are very different, but the UFC knuckleheads want to keep the comparison going in the hopes of siphoning dollars from boxing. While we're at it, I bet Roger Clemens could strike out Tiger Woods and John Cena would lay the smackdown on Peyton Manning.
Reply:this question is obsolete. its the same as asking if a ufc fighter can last in a boxing match. they are totally different sports..get your mind right.
Reply:About as long as a UFC fighter would last in a boxing ring.
Reply:Why would they fight anyway.
I'll rather watch a boxer fight another boxer.
Bring your UFC questions with you, boxing fans are not
interested.
Reply:No because there is more to the UFC than just boxing.
Reply:He sure can win but minus the grappling and holding. I love to watch UFC when its a stand up fight but when both fighters were on ground the become boring as mayweather running de la joya.
Reply:ill put it like this anybody in the ufc would get beat down in the boxing ring just like any boxer would in the octagon. some say boxing is boring when boxers run what about when ufc guys just lay on top of each other trying to get a mount no punching just holding that's bull to i hate it when i see them guys sometime because it looks sloppy as well no technique just aggression that's bull to so i wouldn't try to compare to diff rent things because the bottom line is everyone likes what they like but if it goes to looking ugly and wild or technique and beauty at times the beauty will always win and who wants to see two men on top of each other hugging and all that lol that's soft.
Reply:A boxer would have a chance if he was fast and can grapple. and got in a fast lucky punch, UFC would win

What is the best gear for sparring?
My friend and I have both done martial arts for years, but in different arts. I'm more of a grappler and a hand fighter, while he's got some real power behind his kicks. What are the trusted brands of MMA-ish sparring gear? More specifically, what are some good models of gloves that won't restrict grappling, and foot pads so I don't have to get any of my ribs set again? Durability and price are also factors for consideration, but if there's a great product out there, I'd apreciate hearing about it. Thanks.

Is this training good for making my legs stronger?
I'm a rokyu (white belt) in Judo, and right now my legs are fairly skinny and weak. Will my judo training help strengthen my legs much?
Our training sessions last a little under 2 hours. We spend 40 minutes on ground fighting, 40 minutes on throws and takedowns, and about 20 to 30 minutes on sparring (randori). Does anyone else have any experience getting stronger from their grappling training?
Is this training good for making my legs stronger?
Do body squats in sets of 50 or 100. If you start lifting heavy weights while trying to keep up a training routine your body wont be able to handle it right off the bat.
Reply:Yes, Judo should help your legs get stronger, 'cause when you flip your opponent you need your legs to support you, after doing 40 minutes on throws and takedowns every lesson your legs should get stronger.
Reply:Yes the training helps your legs become stronger. I also experience that first my legs is not to good in kicking in counter attack. But the past 4 months i improve my legs, just don't give up.

Could any WWE fans explain to me whymost guys seem to hate John Cena? Is his character to cliche rden perhaps?
At one time John Cena was madly popular by both male and female fans, but over the last year and a half or so, it seems , he has become the target of major hatred. Why is that? Is it because he hardly raps(or more acurately makes wise cracks about other guys, pausing at the end of each sentence for crowd response then rhymes the endings of the sentences)on T.V anymore. Is his character to goody goody or too cliche ridden perhaps? His very limited grappling ability? The women still cheer for him for obvious reasons, but the males boo h im out of the arena. Does he maybe need to show more of an edge to his babyface character like he did the day after he beat Edge in the ladder match on Raw. Just curious.
Could any WWE fans explain to me whymost guys seem to hate John Cena? Is his character to cliche rden perhaps?
I do believe thta his image is becomeing a bit to much of a cliche but overall I think the main reason is some jealousy and some typicl turn of events. I have never (%26amp; I've watched for years) seen a wrestler come and have stayin power without a large hatred base to go with it. Hell look at Hulk what would he have been with out Andre or Savage? Remember when everyone loved Ms Elizabeth and then she turned her back. No one is safe in the world of Wrestlin. I mean hell people even find a way to hate people like Hacksaw and Eugene how can you hate that?
Reply:Well superstars have their moments when the fans hate them and love them. Everyone hated Triple H until DX was remade.
Reply:cause john cena is a wigger
Reply:Some stars just have their time to shine
If it makes you happier, my sister and I love John Cena : )
Reply:I love John Cena..the way he raps etc is hillarious! Think the male fans just jeer him for the hype. Everyone is loved and then hated in that industry...I mean look at the rock there was even a time when he was hated!!

Help! I need to find a Mulan (Disney) video clip.?
I know this is an odd request, but I have to find a video of the scene from the Disney animated picture Mulan: where the Huns throw their grappling hooks over the Great Wall of China and the lone guard lights the signal fire to warn the rest of the country of the invasion.
A link to any website would be more than sufficient; thank you so much!

Vegetarian (long)?
I read a long time ago about how animals are treated cruelly in factory farms and it bothered me so I stopped eating meat. I still, however ate cheese and drank milk. My mom convinced me to eat free range chicken and I guess I don't have a huge problem with fish. However I always find myself grappling over whether or not I should eat meat at all. I think that some vegetarians overlook the reality that we are a part of nature and, in nature animals eat other animals. Even if we don't eat meat, we are eating plants and probably traces of insects. When we die, in some way our decomposing bodies give back to the system. We end up nourishing the soil that allows the plants to grow that other animals eat. But, I do have a problem with the fact that I would emotionally have a hard time tracing back the origins of the meat I eat even if it is "free range" or "cage free." What do you guys make of this? Also, does a vegetarian diet give your body enough nutrients to grow?
Vegetarian (long)?
"Free range" pretty much means nothing,it's simply for labeling purposes. It basically just makes more money because people who actually care about animal welfare believe that animals are treated better. When it comes to free range, all it means that they have to have access to outdoors, they don't even have to be raised outdoors, that is the only guideline set forth for free range animals.Humans are so far part from nature,so that isn't really valid arguement to eat meat.Animals in the wild eat meat out of neccesity,if they didn't they wouldn't survive.

“It is the position of the American Dietetic Association and Dietitians of Canada that appropriately planned vegetarian diets are healthful, nutritionally adequate and provide health benefits in the prevention and treatment of certain diseases.”
“Well-planned vegan and other types of vegetarian diets are appropriate for all stages of the life cycle, including during pregnancy, lactation, infancy, childhood and adolescence. Vegetarian diets offer a number of nutritional benefits, including lower levels of saturated fat, cholesterol, and animal protein as well as higher levels of carbohydrates, fiber, magnesium, potassium, folate, and antioxidants such as vitamins C and E and phytochemicals. Vegetarians have been reported to have lower body mass indices than nonvegetarians, as well as lower rates of death from ischemic heart disease; vegetarians also show lower blood cholesterol levels; lower blood pressure; and lower rates of hypertension, type 2 diabetes, and prostate and colon cancer.“
-ADA’s and Dietitians of Canada position on Vegetarian and Vegan diets
Reply:I became vegetarian for the same reasons, and for environmental issues- but I am not against eating meat per se. I just won't eat animals that have been abused because it does affect my own body. This is not a question in my mind. Free range or eating meat from farms that are ethical in their treatment of animals should be ok.
Primates eat proteins (10% or so of their diet) and they are physically close to us - they get it from insects and the like.
The Jains in India do not eat meat and are a strong people. The protein recommendations are excessive. We do not need that much protein!
Reply:i have been a vegitarian for 3 years and i just stopped cuz i got health problems its no good to be that way ur body cant take it well yea im eating animals but its not like if i was not eating them it would change ne thing they will still kill them and people will eat them theres no way of stopping it its a way of life get over it
Reply:Well, I would say eating free range is better than eating from factory farms, however, ethically I personally still have a problem with free range. 1) There are no goverment regulations on what constitutes free range. Mostly I've found that it's a gimmick. 2) Even the chickens that are truly free range still die. I think most vegetarians are with me when I say there is no reason to make an animal die peacefully or non-peacefully for food or taste. 3) With free range a lot of people say, "but they're life was put to a good use and they lived well before then." To that I say so if a happy 70 year old man is shot dead (pretty humane if you ask me) does that mean it was ok to shoot him?
It is true that in small ways it is impossible to be 100% vegan. I'll use another analogy: If humans are killed anyway through accidents and other unfortunate things of life, does that mean we should quicken the process and start killing everyone? It is best to make the concious choice to save as many animal lives as possible.
Life and the earth is a circle, however certain animals are designed to eat meat and humans are not carnivores. We have molars that are good for chewing and grazing. We also don't have the enzyme that allows us to eat meat raw, which a vital charateristic of a true carnivore.
And finally, yes, a vegetarian diet has all the nutrients you need to grow. Be sure to eat a variety of grains, legumes, vegatable, and fruit, and you will be much healthier.
Hope this helped.
Reply:If you eat cheese, you may want to choose rennetless cheese. Rennet is an enzyme from the stomach of a cow. A dead cow.
Reply:same here i was wonder the same thing
when i was 6 yrs old, i stop eating meat same season i feel sorry for the animals %26amp; became vegetarian, and yes don't had any trouble growing up
Reply:If you're worried about health, then don't. I've been vegetarian since birth and I'm 5'7 and an ideal weight. Never had any problems with overeating or anorexia like most of the other girls my age. You can get plenty of protein from eggs and dairy (if you eat these...I would reccomend you get organic because the horomones are bad for you), beans, whole grains, nuts, etc. Most people in America get far too much protein which is hard on your kidneys. If you eat eggs and milk and make sure you get plenty of leafy greens for iron you won't even need to take vitamins. If you do take a vitamin, however, be sure to get a vegetarian formula, not only to be sure there are no animal ingredients in there but because regular multi's are formulated for the typical American diet and you will get overdoses of vitamins like A and C.
Reply:the fact that other animals eat animals is null when you apply it to humans, unless you're running around the forest killing your own food. we are so far removed from "nature." getting a plucked and wrapped chicken from a grocery store is extremely different than a lioness chasing down a gazelle.
Reply:Yes, it is natural for animals to hunt one another. Yes, humans are animals and we are capable of eating meat.
However, we are omnivores trying as hard as we can to be carnivores. Many people eat too much meat, and it's horrible for our bodies. The health risks of eating meat outweight the benefits--I'm healthier as a vegetarian than I ever would have been as an omnivore, and I'm much happier.
There's also the fact that we are very intelligent animals. We are capable of thriving on a vegetarian, or even vegan, diet. We are perfectly capable of ending the immense suffering in slaughterhouses, but we don't. We're too selfish...meat tastes good, why should we care if other beings are tortured to get it? We can stop the violence, and I think we should. Since we don't need meat to survive, unlike most animals, killing for it is unjustified. Sure, certain people may need to hunt in order to survive, but how many people in our modern society actually need it instead of just wanting it?
And a vegetarian diet will give you all the nutrients you need if you plan it properly. My doctor was very happy when I told her that I was a vegetarian, and when she tested my blood, she told me that I don't need any kind of supplement because everything was at a good level. If you do take a vitamin supplement, find a vegetarian one. Most of the "swallowable" ones contain gelatin, and all of the chewable ones that I've found have carmine/cochineal extract in them (It comes from insects!).
Reply:wait is this a question?..well uhh the animals who "eat us" when we die we did not eat them! The vegies that we eat..we wash the bugs off! Reply:I became a vegetarian for different reasons, i honestly don't like the taste of meat. I haven't had any problems growing.
Reply:This is a smart question you're asking.
My arguments for vegetarianism are that we don't have the teeth of meat eaters, for the most part our teeth are REALLY dull and in every other mammal that means that they mostly thrive on vegetation. Also, eating meat, especially the way most Americans do, can be awful for your health. It affects your cholesterol, you can get too much protein which is no good, and it SITS in your intestines and colon because it's difficult to digest! Rotting! Gross! Also, think of the antibiotics and medications given to the animals that you could be eating. You don't need those, you're not sick now, don't make yourself be.
HOWEVER. If you really think you need meat (%26amp;fish = meat..) free range is a great option IF you know where these "free range" animals are coming from. There are no regulations as to what free range means currently.
Whoever said that since we're not hunting our own food it makes our need to eat animals from the grocery store void made a great point. Picking up a pound of ground beef at Shop n Stop (or in contrast - Whole Foods Market) isn't hunting.
As long as you are smart about what you eat as a veggie, your body will be fine. It really takes research to understand how to maintain your health, you can't just wing it. Don't be a junk food vegetarian, eating a diet of potatoes and other heavy carbs to fill up! Good luck!!

Best self defense/martial arts for real life?
I'm going to some third world countries, and I bartend in a pretty ghetto bar where fights happen alot. What's the most effective martial arts for modern day application. I don't want to learn how to defend against ninja weapons. I don't think wrestling/grappling is good if a guy has six friends who are kicking me when I'm down. If someone comes at me with a gun, knife, bat, or fist, which martial arts teaches how to defend quickly and efficiently before more trouble shows? I've heard alot about the Isreali body guard class, can't remember what it's called. Anyone? Thanks.

I practice kajukenbo, a mixed martial arts out of Hawaii. It's effective b/c I train in stand up, take downs, escapes, and ground fighting. Although, it's not enough. I also added weapons defense, submissions, and filipino stick fighting. I've done different forms in the past including muy thai. It's really the only way to go. But it's a long and difficult road.
Otherwise, buy a gun.
Reply:The israeli haganah or krav maga are good as well as russian Systema. Avoid karate, tkd, ect as they are not really based in reality.
The thing about grappling and wrestling are that most fights end up on the ground. So you should know some wrestling and grappling. Nothing fancy just how to go from the guard to a lock to standing. How to maintain your standing position with dirty boxing and leverage.
Ok this is the important part... NEVER FIGHT A KNIFE. You can be bruce lee on sterioids with ninja training and you will always get cut. Run from a knife its not worth getting stabbed over.
A good kife fighter will stab you and be walking down the street before you notice it.
In a bar fight its should always be 2 on one. And this is how you do it. You use clocking, one of you stays on his 6 and gets his attention while the other is on his 12 from behind ready to toss him out the door or knock him down. Ever see the raptors from jurasic park the movie, thats what you want in a real life bar fight.
Reply:since you already have studied krav maga, you might want to try something that has "ground game" because a lot of fights will go to the ground.
If your opponent has more than one friend keep them from getting behind you for a take down. do as much dammage as possible and get away,
also if you have one of them you can use him as a shield of sorts to tie up the rest of them to give you some time, but you have to be quick. but get away at the first opportunity against 2-3 or more people. and above all, anywhere you go, watch your back
Reply:There is no best martial art only there are martial arts that work better for you, since you are concerned against numbers I would suggest you give Aikido a try it is intended to work pretty well against multiple opponents.
and the name of the Israeli style of combat is krav maga
Reply:Regardless of size, strength, and fitness level, anyone can master the essentials of Krav Maga, and reap the rewards of increased safety, confidence, and conditioning. With moves you can learn in as little as five minutes, or practice for long-term success, Krav Maga will show you how to:
Protect your body's vulnerable targerts
Use an opponent's momentum to fuel your counterattack
Escape from grips and holds
Combine punches, kicks, knees and elbows
Increase your core strength
Improve muscle tone
Krav Maga
No wasted time doing Kata's, you will wear protective gear and strike, punch, throw, and kick fellow students in "real world" situations. Your instructor will look at your natural abilities and enable you to use them against your opponents.
With your job and the locations you will encounter multiple threats mostly armed with knives or sticks. Krav Maga will teach you how to react, without hesitation, and be able to....win!

Reply:What? Even if you fight standup, six of his friends can alway gang up on you and knock you down and kick you while you're down. It's not like in movie where people take turn to attack. They all will go right at you. Absolutely NO style will help you! So your best bet is to learn their lanaguage, be humble, learn their culture, don't dress flashy or show off about anything. beside that I think knowing how to fight will make things worse because in other countires, especially third country, they usually are very baised. So if you get in fight, the polices will usually believe their people while ignoring you and toss you in prison.
I can write a book on this but... basically it's better to NOT get in any fight and don't have much on you or wear expensive clothes and they will not have many reason to attack you.
Reply:Krav Maga for a general over all rounding
Boxing for striking and to effectively protect yourself
Jiu Jitsu for breaking an arm and ending a fight immediately or if you need to take someone down
Reply:Krav Maga.
Reply:I agree that Aikido would be a great choice, but I study Aikido. This is the third art for me, and I find they all offer a great deal. The fact is your only as good as your instruction and dedication.
Aikido includes non-destructive or destructive joint manipulation that works great in the tight confines of a bar or club, weapons defense against knives and guns (run!!), as well as a great deal of practice against multiple attackers (Randori). You'll also get so much more from a spiritual standpoint. You'll learn to control situations so you don't NEED to act. See www.aikidofaq.com for more info.
Reply:Find a nearby martial arts school and ask to see some of there self defense, if it looks stupid dont bother. Make sure they deal with the attacker and not just getting away. If the stuff they do looks like b.s. it is b.s. I would recommend maybe visiting a nearby college, and talking to the teacher there. I taught a self-defense class at a college when I was 16 and would have been happy to help somebody.

How to protect hands from biting attacks by animals?
As with humans, one way to restrain animals is by grappling and pinning, but animals tend to bite. How do you improvise an equipment that can be used to shield one's hands from damage?
How to protect hands from biting attacks by animals?
As for the grappling, I wouldn't recommend it. But for my experience with dogs, I will tell you this. If a dog has your hand in his jaw, DO NOT pull away. Instead push forward and cram your hand down his throat. This will induce the gag reflex and he'll let go.
Reply:you could try not putting your hand near their mouths.......... or use both hands and grab them round the neck
Reply:meat cutters glove
Reply:if possible go for the eyes. just a poke would send shockwaves all over. sharks are no different.
Reply:The most common is to wrap your coat or shirt over your arm. But if you have time to prepare, then a chainmail glove over leather gauntlets is your best bet. Most divers who expect to encounter sharks usually use chain mail for protection. But although it protects your skin from being ripped, it doesn't protect your bones from being broken from the pressure exerted by the animal's jaw, so I wouldn't be too overconfident even with these equipment. And if you have the budget for it, there are also commercially available padded armors used by law enforcement and animal control personnel for canine attack training.
Reply:They sell excellent equipment for restraining animals. When I'm attacked by a foreign dog (one I don't know) I don't mess around with grappling. Grappling is a merciful way to defeat people you like. Instead I strike, often with my walking stick. But, use good sense. Not all dogs that come up to you growling will attack. For instance, I was in riverview park (Pittsburgh) a few weeks ago and this lady had her dogs off leash, and two of them, a black lab and I believe a Dalmation mix, came up to me blocking my walk and growling. While she was a terrible owner for having such dogs off the leash (I have one dog I wouldn't take off the leash as well, and one I would, you gotta know your dogs) I could also tell that if I didn't walk forward and didn't run away they wouldn't do anything but sit there growling until their owner came to put them on leash.
Reply:I assume that a Glock 23 is a good way to protect your hands and the rest of your body.
Reply:Not picking fights with your dog. Rover doesn't like it and neither should you.
Reply:well...if you can avoid the mouth, but you will often have to restrain them at the neck (which means going past the mouth). The best way to protect your hand is to wear some sturdy gloves.
However, while sturdy gloves will work for dog and cat bites.....they wont do much of didilly if you're trying to go for something more carnivorous (like wolf, big cats.....), but the liklihood of that is very low (unless a zookeeper).
Basically just put tough protective gear on the parts you want to protect. The gear should be resilient enough to handle the bite of the animal in question. They have anti-shark gloves to protect hands from shark bites....those would work for anything.

Reccommendations for MMA gloves?
I need reccommendations for MMA gloves, preferrably a pair you have tried and are happy with.
Basically what I need is:
-need to be able to use for medium or semi-heavy sparring to cushion the impact of the bone so I don't hurt my partner, I realize some control is still necessary to stop from injuring them
-needs to be fairly durable so they'll last a while
-have to be able to use them for grappling and joint manipulation
Preferably you've tried them yourself and preferably they aren't too expensive. I'm not looking to spend $100 on a pair of gloves that I'll use probably twice a week.
Reccommendations for MMA gloves?
I have always used different types so I can't really tell you which is the best to use.
It depends on the uses and you have many criteria so I would test some out.
Reply:I have used...tapout, century, and combat sports... only ones I will touch now is Everlast MMA gloves. Love them!!!
Reply:i just ot a pair of really ice everlast gloves and they only held up a few months i would suggest the official UFC fight gloves.. thats what im gettin :]

My bf is in trouble because a minor female student of his is filing against him for sexual harrasment.?
should i support my bf? or should i really question the fact that he really did something to this minor? he is a grappling (teach boxing instrutor) you need to be in physical contact. what should i do? how should i feel or react? he's totally honest with me and told me he didnt do anything wrong. if this is the case then why is this female filing charges against him? pls give ur opinions and advice.
My bf is in trouble because a minor female student of his is filing against him for sexual harrasment.?
If you truly belive that he did nothing wrong, then there's nothing more you can do aside from standing by him and supporting him.
It might suck, but it's a fact of life that those accused of Sexual Harrassment are generally presumed to be guilty until proven innocent, so your boyfriend might have a long, uphill battle ahead of him. But if you believe in him and his story, then your support during this time will be incredibly important to him.
Be prepared, however, to be called as a witness in any court proceedings steming from this incident...

Reply:If it is one student, you might do well to give him the benefit of the doubt. If there are other students, or you have any doubts of your own, and he is only your boyfriend, then cut him loss and find a guy who is interested in playing with you not with minors.
Reply:There are a number of reasons she may have filed charges one of which being she made an advancement romantically on him and when he turned her down(as he should have) she was embarassed. That is just one scenario of many. If you truly trust him and believe in him than of course you should stand by his side. He is going through something difficult at the moment and he sould be surrounded by the ones he loves and whom love him. Best of luck!

Or would you consider it, as an accident? Or would you consider that hey, since he is a man, he should have the right to touch me, even though I don't like it the way he touch me?....So try to understand her point of view and not because he has always told you the truth, that doesn't mean, that he would tell you the truth on this one....so let the police consider the evidence or the testimony of this girl and listen to the decision of the judge,.....
Reply:That's a tough one. How do you feel in your heart? If you think he's being honest, he definitely needs your support. Sexual harassment is far and away the most falsely accused crime of all. Even if he didn't do it, he is going to be guilty in the public eyes and it will still be on the records. Then again if he did do it, what exactly did he do? Some crimes are a whole lot worse than others and some things that are considered crimes maybe shouldn't be. Have you ever seen him doing anything of the sort? Do you know anything about this girl? Checking into her past is a very good idea. She may well have a reason for what is going on. I'd say innocent until proved quilt and I hope he gets a fair trial.

Whats it like in a fist-fight?
for any of you who have been in one, whats it feel like? is it really fast paced or is there time to think? does it hurt/stun you when you get hit.?
does grappling feel anything like hugging someone?
Whats it like in a fist-fight?
When in a fight, for bob anyways, you are very excited and the adrenaline is pumping and you got a rush going on.
It is pretty fast paced, although like the person above said, fist fights like ont he street usually dont last longer then a minute, from the point of view of a fighter it feels like its very face paced and you kind of lose track of time.
the time to think part is critical, being strong or bigger then your opponent does not win fights it helps to have strong punches because they do more damage and hurt more, but raw skill does. What does it matter if you can knock the person out in one punch if you cant hit them at all.
Part of raw skill is being smart (fight wise, not like in school wise), making good decisions like wither to throw a hook or dodge get in and then throw hook and being able to think under pressure and while being hit, everyone has a plan for a fight until they start getting hit, if you can keep your plan and keep a cool while being hit and throwing punches your set.
You can feel the punches, but because of the adrenaline they dont really hurt until after the fight or unless they slam you with a massive blow to a sensitive spot. It all depends on the level of adrenaline you have at the time and your pain tolerance, but you dont generally feel a lot of pain from the punches. However after words depending on the strength of your knuckles you can break or injure your knuckles by punching someone hard enough when your knuckles are not strong enough, if you want to build up strength in your knuckles so they are more durable. Drink a glass of milk every day and then go punch the wall about 2-3 times a day until they are red and sore. Dont over do it, but make sure they are red.
grappling is a totally different story, grappling is just wrestling on the ground and trying to get them to submit or depending on what style to get on top and pound them until they get tko or ko. If your grappling with out punches its just wrestling your trying to get into a good position while they are at the same time, physical strength plays into this a lot more then it does in fist fights and skill comes from being able to maneuver, think and conserve energy on the ground. It kind of feels like hugging someone, but mroe or less grabbing at them and trying to move yoruself and them into a better position for you.
dont do what gin told you
1. if you dont know how to do those things properly your gonna mess up and theres a good chance they'll mount you or take advantage of it and you'll lose because of it.
2. if you actually get them into the triangle and start punching like he told you to and no one stops you, your gonna end up making the person brain dead and its not worth it.
Reply:There is rarely any grappling and if you dont have alot of endurence your screwed. Thats what its about. If your strong,it wont matter, but if you have a high threshold of pain, then you will win most likely.
Reply:it depends on what kind of guy you are fighting
Reply:it hurts
Reply:I got a laugh out of the first answer. It doesn't hurt THAT much when you get hit, but after the adrenaline goes away, it will hurt. A regular old street fight is very quick. You don't need endurance. Make sure you get the first hit. It will usually get broken up pretty fast, if not, you WILL end up on the ground. just make sure you wind up on top and reign down blows.
Reply:Depends on how big your opponent is and whether he is an experienced fighter or just an amateur who swings away like a chimp. With adrenaline flowing, most of the time, you won't feel any of the punches that doesn't hit a vital spot, you just see flashes of white light everytime you get hit in the face and your knees tend to buckle when hit square in the jaw plus your ears feels really hot. It may seem fast paced to observers, but to you it seems like an eternity has passed, at least that's how it feels if you don't quite know what to do or how to react to his attacks and just cover up and try to weather his onslaught. If you do fight back however, it becomes a contest of who hits the fastest. And most of the time, you're off balance and usually have a hard time setting up a good punch and are constantly trying to get some leverage which is why most prefer to just grapple. Grappling isn't as easy as it looks since you're both straining against each other and more often hit a hard object either on the ground or in your surroundings. The first thing to go is usually your breathe or wind, then your strength gets sapped. Once that's gone, it usually becomes a contest of wills and on who can stay on top and keep pummeling. The pain, unless he hits you where it hurts, like the groin, throat or solar plexus which stops you dead on your tracks, usually doesn't come until after the fight when the adrenalin fades away, then you'll feel every punch he ever threw and every pebble and table corner you banged into all over your body.
Reply:Depnds on you and the person you are fighting. Nah doesn't feel like hugging.
Reply:There's plenty of time to think but not enough time to dilly-dally. Whatever pain ya feel during a fight, it is MUCH worse afterwards. I don't know what kind of grappling YOU're talking about but in real life fights nobody tries to do that hugging BS you see in competitions sometimes.
Reply:I've only been in one.
During the summer between 9th and 10th grade. I squared off on a street corner one evening against Matt Hamilton. Matt was one of those guys that talked bigger than he was. He was taller than I so I positioned myself on the sidewalk and he was in the street. We started trading punches. The scrap moved from the sidewalk to the street and back to the sidewalk again. Finally after we had each thrown and landed a few blows, I realized that when I stomped my foot Matt would turn his head. So, I stomped my foot and hit him in the left temple with a straight right hand. He was unconscious for a few seconds. Long enough for me to get on top of him and start throwing lefts and rights to his head. He started saying, "I GIVE UP, I GIVE UP"! So I stopped and we never had anymore problems after that.
Both of my hands were sore and I remember going home and soaking them in Epsom Salt.
Reply:In a street fight you often have so much adrenaline pumping that you don't feel anything and are in a kind of daze, but are in fact faster and more explosive than you would normally be, it just doesn't feel that way. Odd feeling, I have never felt a punch until afterward, when I was back to calm. Grappling does not have to go hand in hand with fighting, and it doesn't feel like hugging unless you're an immature little kid.
Reply:Wow someones never been in public schools. If you are talking about just a regular street fight its mostly just 2 people wildly swinging at eachother for a minute until someone goes down. You wont feel a thing until you calm down later.
Reply:when that movie "Fight Club" came out, we watched it, and w etaught it was a good idea to copy it, so we got drunk and went outside, somebody had to iniate the first strike so my mate punched me right in teh corner of my eye, it stang. so later on down the road I swang a right punch to his temple, he said it hurted to...and there was this guy walking past and he looked at us like we were crazy. so he punched me several times on the forehead that didnt hurt that much.
when I was at at school maybee at 13 years old, some guy made a racial slur at me, I dont usually hit people but from nowhere I just slapped him in the face and right cross him in the nose, it bled, and he started crying...he then grabbed my arm, and we were back to back, so I repeatedly elbowed him with my left elbow to to his neck and back,,,and he just sat there crying, I apologised to him afterwards.
when I was 11, we were on the ground and some dude was playing with my shoelaces, so I moved my feet, and in effect kicking him straight in the face, he started crying too...I had to apologise, but when I did he palm striked me right in the eye, I started crying to, so the next day I braught a knife to school...I didnt end up using it though and we became friends through high school.
when I was 8, it was night time about 10pm, we went over to this guys house across the road and we were throwing rocks on the wall and calling his mom fat, and he came out and punched us a couple of times...we learnt our lesson.
Reply:in a fight what matters most is what your opponent like he will not feel much pain from your hits because of his adrenaline and nor will you from his. a fight feels harder than it actually looks eg: you might see a fight video on youtube and you see somebody getting hammered and you think "oh i could get up from that easily", but the reality is its not that easy because of how much energy your opponent has . my advice to you if you got in a fight would be to score a quik leg takedown (whilst avoiding his face shots wrap youyr arms round his legs, twist your body onto the floor and hell go down) after that wrap you legs round his neck (prefrebly your thighs) then squeeze. (people may say you are gay for doing this but just ignore them) then with his head trapped in your legs, keep punching him for all you are worth until he is outcold and you have won the fight.
Reply:I usually end the fight with one or two strikes since most guys that picks fight with me is not too experienced in martial arts.
Reply:Pretty much everything happens in the blink of an eye. You really don't remember details.
Reply:fist fighting isn't the most intense fighting I've ever encountered. A good capoeira match is much more stimulating , and it's also fun.
If it's a pure fist fight, or just a fight with someone with no other training, I will have less to worry about and watch out for. I find them unexciting.
If you are relaxed in the fight, you will, have more thinking time, it all depends on how good your opponent is.
The punches only hurt if they hit you square and if the guy is a good puncher. You don't necessarily get stunned by a punch, it depends where and how hard it hits.
