Grappling gloves for beginners. help!?

Hi. I want to buy grappling gloves (with open fingers) but I don't have a clue of what is good or not. I am a beginner so I don't need something too fancy or expensive but I want something that is good value for money. I have seen gloves made of different materials: Cowhide leather, grain leather, vinyl and PU. Please I need advice.

I am based in the UK. I would appreciate if you could also recommend me any good store where to buy these gloves.

There's loads of online stores where you can buy those. It is also your personal preference on type of materials used - you should find a pair that you feel comfortable with. Try these on-line stores:

www.blitzsport.com

www.cimac.net

www.tsamartialarts.com

www.avasports.com

www.vadersports.co.uk

www.budostoreuk.com

www.aworldofmartialarts.com

www.qualitymartialarts.com

www.mmauniverse.com

I must point out that all of the above-mentioned on-line stores have their addresses on their web-sites, and are located all over the united kingdom. Alternatively buy a copy of 'Martial Arts Illustrated mag.' at WH Smith. This is a good mag with loads of information/articles and classifieds.

I hope that this helps. : ¬ )
Reply:I am assuming you mean gloves that allow you to strike while leaving the fingers free to grapple? The next question is do you want some 10 ouncers, which is about as large as you can go and preserve functionality, or just the skimpy type designed for full contact competition/sparring. Either way, I recommend Century, though I hear eBay is good for that sort of thing.
Reply:Check out combatsports.com, they have a wide variety of gloves to choose from. I personally have Fairtex grappling gloves but they will cost you a little more. Combat sports has their own brand which are pretty good.
Reply:depends on what you are doing?

Do you mean actual competition 4 oz mma gloves?

Or do you mean training gloves that give some more padding for training MMA where you are going to be striking as well.

Or just grip gloves?
Reply:try Century or Everlast

both make good equipment

Try doing some workouts to stregthen your hand/forearm muscles too though

farmers walk

plate pinch(hold two weights face to face)

hold yourself on a chin up bar
Reply:i really would suggest a pair of fairtex or twins gloves. they arent mega expensive but arent the cheapest, but for an all round glove you cant go wrong. im a thai boxer and only wear fairtex, and every body who i know that grapples swears by them and twins too. you can find them on ebay, or any martial arts shops, i suggest a shop from thailand which is where fairtex and twins are made, the site is called muaythaisuff.com. the bloke that owns it is very helpful too. if you need any more advice just post another q on here and i will try to help. good luck
Reply:e-bay every time - thats my advice
