Erotic Circus Novel?

I'm grappling with a book concept about an erotic, pansexual travelling circus, set in the early 1900's. I've crafted a fine set of strong and unique, quirky characters, and I know the exact mood I want to create. Everything, in fact, is laid out except for the plot.

I know that I want my protagonist to be quiet, self-contained, more of an observer of everything that goes on until she is finally compelled to act. And I want something intense and dramatic- tangled, really- but my mind is drawing a blank. Love triangles and murders seem cliched.

Can anyone help me brainstorm?

Erotic Circus Novel?
Perhaps your heroine could be the ringmaster...since ringmasters were always men in those days, she is in disguise...pretending to be a man...but secretly in love with....? Let me know what you come up with...E.

but he wears a hat to cover it sometimes.

Reply:Here's an idea

Give your character a domineering antagonist, and have him/her try to force your character into something she doesn't want to do. Like, the antagonist could be pushing the character into a relationship she isn't comfortable with. Since your character is quiet, at first she'll be a little afraid to protest, untill she's pushed too far. Then she suddenly has to act.

That's not much of a plot, but maybe you could build on it.
