I've heard of a few Arts like Vale Tudo that involve almost everything e.g. grappling, joint locking, ground fighting, stikes ect. Is there anymore arts like Vale Tudo and is MMA good for the street? This is the follow up of my other question which is better on the streets Grappling or Striking Arts and i have decided that a mixture of both is the best. That = MMA.
Is MMA Good?
yess they are, MMA combines both sides of a fight (the standing game and the ground game) to benefit the practitioner, because in truth, the more knowledgable you are with both sides of grappling and striking the better off you are in a fight.
there is also catch as catch can wrestling, shootfighting, NHB or No Holds Barred fighting, and several other variations of wrestling that involve both sides, even a few of the traditional Martial Arts like Hapkido utilize both striking and grappling as well
disciplines like Vale Tudo utilize both sides of the fight to allow the practitoner to be ready in a fight so that they can be ready for whatever situation comes up whether they are on their feet, or on the ground.
the only problem with ground fighting is that it becomes difficult to handle multiple opponents so you have to know how to disable or dispose of an opponent quickly should you be faced with a multioppnent situation.
MMa fighting is not a true martial arts discipline per se, but it does utilize elements from striking arts AND ground fighting disciplines as well, but it can work just as well in a fight situation.
Reply:I would guess either is good. Learning both stand up and ground fighting is good self defense.
If you are worried about a streetfight, I wouldn't put too much emphasis on Martial Arts. Boxing would be the better bet. Learn grappling also because most Street Fighters don't like to be on the ground.
Reply:Yes,MMA is good. This sports is being well-known in the United States. If you got into a street fight I would advice you to be good in striking or grappling.Street fights can end up on the ground also.
Reply:ya MMA is really good for street fights/self defense. most street fights are between ppl that don't know how to fight anyway. so if you got a guy up close in a clinch postion and started throwing elbows and knees, he wouldn't know what to do. same with taking him down to the ground and grappling if u wanna avoid hurting someone. i know of many bouncers who are trained in jui-sit-jui(wrong spelling) so they can controll situations better with out injurying the drunking slob who is creating the problem. Still even the best MMA fighter would lose a fight if they were heavily out numbered so if you do learn so MMA skills dont go out looking for fights because they will definitely find you
