Fighting with Contact lenses?

Hi, I'm in a martial arts class and wondering if it is a good idea to have contacts in while sparring or grappling. Anyone have any bad experiences while wearing contacts during a fight?

I wear the Acuve Advanced brand.

Fighting with Contact lenses?
I always wear them when grappling/sparring, even full contact. (but I can't see without them). Helpful hint I learned: put a couple of rewetting drops in before sparring. Dry contacts come out of your eye easier and are more likely to bother you. I haven't had any problems yet...
Reply:people do it all the time. Just not in full contact fighting. Laser eye surgery is well worth the investment.
Reply:A number of my students have contact lenses which they wear at all times, otherwise they're basically blind. For the most part, it's fine, but occassionally in our TaeKwon-Do or HapMoosaKi-Do classes a contact will fall out or slip. It's generally not a major issue....we just halt training around the person, locate the contact, and have the student clean and replace it.

I'd suggest letting your instructor know you wear contacts and if possible carry a spare set just in case you lose one permanently in class. At least you'll be able to see your way home :)

Reply:As long as they are soft lenses. I wouldn't want to spar while wearing a small chunk of glass on my eye.

This is totally and completely wrong. Eye surgery can be dangerous for full contact fighting. Ask your doctor about getting surgery beforehand. I did MMA for a couple years and wanted to get the eye surgery - doctor told me to wait until all trauma to my eyes was over in my life.

I have worn contacts in the cage and the worst thing that happened was that I lost one.

Reply:I wear lenses and occasionally, one falls out when I get tagged on the side of my head. I just look for it and put it back in. It makes me work harder on defense :)

During a fight, again... one fell out. They stopped the fight, my corner found it and put it in a glass of water for me until afterwards. So I had to fight half "blind."

I've often thought about safety goggles or some other type of safety wear... but would value other people's opinions if they have tried this.
