Karate vs judo????

who do u think will win not punching or grappling just if 1 pro karate and judo guys go nuts on each other who do u think will win?

Karate vs judo????
I've learned that punches and kicks seem inefective in street fighting situations. There's always to much grabbing involved which you can take advantage of, example: If a thief wants to prevent you to go away, he will grab you, and you can take advantage of that to throw him in surprise.
Reply:With punching and grappling - judo.
Reply:Judo, Karate is more of a "what if" type of art, and its more of an art form than it is anything. Judo is mainly sought after for its throws, to basically stop the opponent in his/her tracks and keep them at bay with their attack. Where as Karate is like, if they come at you like this, then do this. However when used for self defense purposes, Karate sticks to the thoughts that all fights are usually fought with fists, and sometimes kicks. Karate is taught where you want to counter attack only, and then back off so that you can counter attack again.

Judo is almost the same in the sense that its more of a counter attack type art, but with Judo, if you get too close to someone who knows even just a little bit of it, you're bound to loose. The Judo guy would win in great fashion, possibly break a limb on the Karate guy. Wether strikes are thrown or not, once that Karate guy gets within reach of the Judo guy, he will go down, and stay down.

Another similar question wouldve been a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu artist versus a Judo artist, now that would be an extreme close call, and in this case the BJJ guy would more than likely come out victorious, because if the Judo guy got him to the ground, the BJJ guy would simply hang on to him, and submit him wether it be from his back or in full guard.
Reply:There is no superior martial art, only superior martial artists.

Even if you're talking about two professional fighters, it is the skill of the men, not their style of fighting, which will determine the outcome of the fight.
Reply:Jeff L is correct in his own misguided way.

It IS the skill of the men. Judo men have more skill than 99% of Karate men. Because they have actually fought before, then have developed skills, whereas most Karate people have only done the kata dance.

(There IS good Karate, it is called Kyokushin, and they hit each other, but they are not the majority, so I do not lump them in with the non-fighters. I you like Karate AND want to learn to fight, go with them).
Reply:Who knows, Mas Oyama beat alot of great judoka back in his day in pretty much no rule challenges, but he was a blackbelt in Judo himself. he did say that getting strong at karate is better than Judo in one of his talks, partly because of the instant when you are attacked by multiple opponents

In kyokushin anyway grapling used to be part of the sylabis, i can send an ebook that shows judo throws and submissions on the ground so oyama liked Judo enough

It would really depend on what school and how good the person is, if the guy was coming from a olympic style Judo school that most school now days are I would have my money on the karate guy, if not, who knows

Its better to do both
Reply:if they are both wearing a gi or shirts the judo will. if shirtless maybe the karate. my opinion.
Reply:judo, no doubt.
Reply:Well, if there's no punching or grappling, I'd guess the karate guy. You didn't say "no kicking" after all. ;-)
Reply:it all depends on the skills of the fighter.different martial arts differ only in techniques but no technique is better than other.the technique only gets better when the practitioner performs it correctly.
