People..answer me this... please?

WHY WOULD YOU WANT TO FIGHT ON THE GROUND ?

the ground is a BAAAAD place to be i guess all you people who say that it's better to take your guy down and bla bla bla tell you what i think anybody who says that has never been in a REAL fight.

now.... i'm not talking about a little school fight i'm talking a bar fight with bottles, chains, possibly knives and lots of people.

you don't know the other guy for that matter they might be with other people USE YOUR HEADS!!! grappling and stuff is good and all but in a street fight i would NOT want to be on the ground ....

YOU SHOULD END A FIGHT AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE

WAKE UP..................

and all this coming for a jiujitsu guy

People..answer me this... please?
All combat scenarios have different tactics to employ. In multi-attacker and weapon encounters it is best to remain in movement and keep you head on a swivel. the ground in one of these attacks is no place to be. But the majority of fights do end up on the ground once a good blow is thrown and landed. It's guy who lands the first decisive blow that usually comes out on top.

The goal is to strike or take your opponents weight with sufficient enough force to not allow him to return a blow.

The reality about fighting is it's messy you never look as good as you do when you train and you must allow you mind to take over your body, because if you stop to think you may wind up knocked out or dead. The truth is the vast majority of people out there will never face a vicious attacker in combat and that's a good thing. But for those who choose to train you better understand as much as you can about everyone else’s game plan so you can figure out how to bring them into your world.

IMHO I feel it's best to have a well rounded game plan. Ultimately you will not have answers to every situation. And none of us are bullet proof. It's best to use you head before your training an in any conflict.

I've trained in both stand up arts and BJJ. I love all the arts I have been exposed to. They all have gems of knowledge within them. But you need to be able to draw your attacker into your game and out of his. You must have an answer to his every move or you may fail.

Nice to know a fellow BJJ student realizes the ground is not always safe. But hey it's fun to get someone’s back for a rear naked choke all the same. ;-)
Reply:O for sure man i totally agree with u. I don't think that it would make any sense at all to fight on the ground. IT IS INEFFICIENT.
Reply:right?? i dont even see a question in ur little rant there
Reply:one bar fights are not martial arts and two if you are a wrestler like me or do any other ground art you can reverse anything some punk puts you in on the ground also when you get on top just take away his guard ground and pound at his face eyes temples everything!
Reply:And is not only a bad place, most of the fighters who likes to fight on the ground are boring fighters and obviously this guys makes a fight really boring too, all the fights that started on the ground and end on the ground are the most boring fights ever, i'm totally agree with you but more for the show that this guys doesn't bring to the table that for the other stuff saying in here but i'm also agree with that too of course.
Reply:Again... What are you doing fighting in a bar? What would be the purpose?
Reply:your an idiot, think about what your saying and then make some sence next time instead of just ranting like a dick
Reply:you obviously have no idea what martial artists do to get to the ground... you have no idea what your talking about...
Reply:I agree with what you are saying about not wanting to go to the ground in an area with a lot of variables.

BUT if I do have ground skills, I have options.

Option 1-

The guy is a nasty stand up fighter and is beating me down. This would be a good time to take a chance on the ground where I know I am proficient and actually have a chance at this point.

Option 2-

The fight just ends up on the ground i.e. its a bar lots of things to trip on.

All this being said don't be dummy getting into trouble in bars.

"YOU SHOULD END A FIGHT AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE

WAKE UP.................." Just a side note unless your name is Fedor this rant of yours is crap because there are a lot of dudes who will work you on their feet.
Reply:Just my opinion but if u ever see a good vicious ground and pounder fight they can be better than a lot of stand up fights. Most of my fights end up on the ground because I'm a wrestler but I costantly try and transition a lot. And don't get me wrong if someone just sits in the guard doing nothing it can get pretty boaring. And as far as a bar fight going to the ground and using BJJ and good ground skill is probably your best bet cause everyone knows how to throw hands. What Joe blow cox off the street is going to see a triangle coming or a broken arm? And if u want it to be bloody, after u choke him unconsious just smash his face up with some elbows! My personal opinion- if it works in a cage where the guy knows its comming its going to be easy as hell at the bar. But I see where your comming from most people prefer stand up and knock outs. "To each his own".
Reply:because the fact is if you know how to grapple the ground IS the best place to be in a fight. when standing both fighters are in equal position and neither can have any advantage over the other, on the ground one fighter can have an advantage, and if you know how to fight on the ground you will either have that advantage or know how to get it, one of the quickest ways to get it is to be the one who brings the fight to the ground. in many cases this advantage allows a person to attack the other while eliminating the possiblity of being attacked, which is impossible when standing. this is one reason why in 99% of all fights which have been pure grappler vs pure striker the grappler has won handily, another is that grappling is a much more effecient way to win a fight allowing you to among other things defeat a much stronger opponent who would most likely out strike you.

on top of all this 90% of all real fights end up on the ground whether you want it to or not and like i said before one of the best ways to get control on the ground is to be the person who brought the fight to the ground.

if you don't know how to fight on the ground you should try to stand as soon as possible of course, likewise if your opponent is better on the ground than you, though in that case you are in serious trouble. if you are facing an armed opponent or multiple opponents your best bet is always to run away and not fight at all. but if you know how to grapple and have a single opponent the ground is the best possible place to fight, and in a street fight the first thing I do is try to put the fight on the ground, because i know how to fight there, and im realistic and know that my (or almost anyones) chances of ending a real fight quickly on my feet via a KO etc. are almost nil
Reply:O no, My whole strategy of getting into a bar fight with some stranger and then wrestling him to the ground, (in self-defence, of course) has been destroyed!!!!

Seriously, shouldn't us Martial artists have better things to do? a true artist doesn't "get into" fights.

Rule One, Don't walk down dangerous dark allies

Rule Two, Don't go to rough-looking bars and get drunk

Rule Three, Don't tell people your an unstoppable fighter who's super trained and can beat anyone.

follow these rules and you'll be a good Martial artist.
Reply:i do striking arts (chinese boxing) so first off id like to say im not biased for bjj or any grappling art.

i think if the person is 5'5 tall and he's fighting a 6'2 guy, he's at a big disadvantage(reach, power, etc) standing up. he would have a better chance of winning if he studied a grappling art and take guys down to the ground.

i agree its boring, but hey, theyre the ones fighting, not us.
Reply:I come from a TKD background (And I have read there are many TKD bashers in here), and I would agree that the ground game isn't much good at fighting multiple attackers. That being said, have you watched UFC?? I sure wouldn't want to miss a kick and find myself on the ground with any of them. I would just ask that you learn what you love, and appreciate others that do the same.
Reply:I've trained in Karate, boxing, and Brazillian Jiu Jitsu and if I got into a one on one fight I would use Brazillan Jiu Jitsu.

By taking your opponent to the ground you have more control over them and reduces the chances of you getting kicked and punched (unless they end up sat on your chest... then you're going to have your face punched in).
Reply:A fight should last no longer than 7 seconds. If it does, your wasting energy and increasing the risk of serious bodily harm to yourself.
Reply:1) You are NOT a BJJ guy

2) You have NEVER been in a fight

3) I block stupid people.

4) Your blocked
Reply:well most of us dont try ad start fights or put ourselves in situations with knifes and whips and chains and beer bottles. lets say a normal one and one fight it ends up on the ground and stats speak the truth
