Im going into grade 9, i weigh 125 lbs., and am 5'5 and 3/4th's (going to grow soon, my parents are both tall) Im a yellow belt (or soon to be) in Jiu Jitsu, and i figured since i tied a brown belt in grappling, i may be a good wreslter. What do you think? I know some take downs, submissions, and chokes, should i give it a try?!
Im considering joining wrestling... (read on)?
I'd advise anyone to go into wrestling. It's a tough sport to do, and is really underrated by a lot of people in terms of toughness and how fit you have to be in order to be a good wrestler. Submission and chokes can't be used in wrestling, but your takedowns should come in handy, and your ground fighting skills should be tested too. You'll also need some good stamina, as the matches can really take a toll on you, so you'll need to be able to keep wrestling at a good pace for some time, especially since you're lighter in weight.
But overall, adding wrestling skills to your repertoire can only help your fighting abilities, as it makes you that much more dangerous when the fight gets taken to the ground and gives you a lot more stamina, and whether you intend to take a career in wrestling or MMA or just want to be able to fight better in general for self-defense reasons or whatever. I'd still definitely recommend it.
Reply:wrestling is much different than Jiu Jitsu (you can't kick or anything) but the physical training is similar though harder in wrestling Report It

Reply:Hell Yeah-Go For It
Reply:I think you should, you'll be gaining more experience with groundgrappling, not to mention experiencing different opponents, with different rules.
Submissions and chokes aren't allowed in wrestling, along with alot of other techniques used in jiu jitsu, but the knowledge you gain will overall be good for your overall groundfighting arsenal.
Reply:Is yellow belt third or fourth level? Well taking down a higher rank is impressive, you should go try out but first gain some weight.
Reply:Whatever floats your boat.
Reply:I say go for it... you sound well rounded...
Reply:That's good do what you want and have passion for it offer something different than the next man.
Reply:if your a guy and you enjoy rubbing and putting your hands on other guys's legs, a*sses, and crotches then go for it. But if your not gay then don't go for it.
