Why is Michelle so obsessed with her color?

Michelle wrote a thesis which she wrote about her self and with grappling with a society in which a black Princeton alumnus might only be allowed to remain "on the periphery." Read the full thesis here: Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, Part 4.

"My experiences at Princeton have made me far more aware of my 'blackness' than ever before," the future Mrs. Obama wrote in her thesis introduction. "I have found that at Princeton, no matter how liberal and open-minded some of my white professors and classmates try to be toward me, I sometimes feel like a visitor on campus; as if I really don't belong. Regardless of the circumstances underwhich I interact with whites at Princeton, it often seems as if, to them, I will always be black first and a student second."

Do you think that seeing how she appears to be so negative in her attitude and toward her country, will eventually cause a problem to Obamas campaign?

Why is Michelle so obsessed with her color?
Because she is a racist. If you are white, doesn't mean you can be the only racist. It exists between other races as well. Her hatred comes through loud and clear.
Reply:You do realize that African-Americans experience life differently than the rest of us?
Reply:Dito, she is a racist and she focuses on it because she wants to bait people into an arguement over race, when it isn't even an issue
Reply:She's been listening to Louis Farrakhan, who was praised by her church.

Reply:You have a major problem....

A lot of people blame a lot of things based on history... I bet that you blame your parents for your ignorance and lack of political debating skills.... Deal with it... And posting links... How mature.... Trying to get more vote for hilary are we???

Come up with a new one, Hilary supporter...

To answer your question: She isn't obsessed with her color, and will make a fantastic first lady....
Reply:From reading just that short piece it shows she is more preoccupied by her color than white people.
Reply:Why is she obsessed? She will be the only one to tell you exactly why.

Will it eventually cause a problem for Obama? Yes, it already is doing so. IMO it may take down Oprah also because she is supporting both of them so much. You are who your friends are. Birds of a feather flock together...

EDIT: Mich...I don't think he is a Hillary supporter...I don't know many who are. I know that I don't support Obama, Hillary OR McCain.
Reply:She isn't, she's just aware and concerned about racism in the US
Reply:i dont find michelle attractive at all.and y not she should be thinking about her body.
Reply:I am a Hillary supporter, but maybe that was Michelle's experience at Princeton. If that is what she truly experienced, then it is not racist for her to write a thesis about it.
Reply:I'd be considered a rascist if i said "whiteness".. perhaps she could of said "my experiences at princeton have made me more aware of my place in this world", ... but this college does have a liberal agenda... i take back everything i just said because afterall i don't want to be considered a rascist and i promise i will never say anything against Barack or Michelle again.. i will have my black friends speak for me. I am not black enough.
Reply:She belongs to a racist church. She talks like a racist. She doesn't socialize at all with white pople. = She is a racist.

If it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck and looks like a duck - it must be a duck.
Reply:I think her views may definitely raise flags among white voters. However, I do not think it makes her a racist to feel what she feels. If she truly felt that way while attending Princeton, then she has a right to say such. Just because one can not imagine feeling the way she may have felt does not mean that she is exaggerating, etc. She isn't obsessed with her color, she sounds like she is stating that she was never allowed to forget it. There is a difference. She knows there is nothing wrong with being black but wanted to be viewed as just a person not just a BLACK person. Her views, her feelings, her thesis, her right to feel that way. I went to a dominantly white university and heard many many white students and friends say that they felt out of place and were very aware that they were white whenever we would go to functions where there was a larger black population. It is just your feelings...doesn't make you racist.
Reply:wow.... for 400 years you were proud to be white... Yet when a black woman is proud to be black you call it racism???

She is not negative towards her country she is proud of who she is and just talks about what it was like being the few black dots in a all white school.

See you wont get it till you visit Japan and get introduced as there young white friend everyday that you are there... and instead of being looked at as another worker you get looked at as the white guy. you can never understand....
Reply:I don't think that you can really make a judgment until you have been in her shoes. Have you tried?

I have a suggestion: imagine that you move to a country where black people hold 95% of government, academic, and business positions, and where until your parents' generation, white people were scorned, treated differently, thought to be mentally inferior, and sometimes even murdered because black people simply didn't like them. Walk around an elite educational institution where 90% of students and faculty are black. Suddenly you might feel just a little bit odd, you might become hyper aware of how your history of being thought inferior makes people look at you a little differently, and you might not quite feel at ease. Get it?

If you still don't get it, you need to travel more and learn what it feels like when people see you as a minority.
Reply:There is a struggle within our society that puts great store in the melanin content of the skin. Clarence Thomas struggled with it and still struggles by denying that it bothers him. People with accomplishment in academics and professional status want to be recognized for just those two things. It is then the psychotic duty of every . . . word that completes "Cheese and . . . " to question the value of the struggle and the expressions of emotions that come with the constancy of that struggle.

Michelle Obama owns her emotions and has no problems sharing the facts of her struggle.
Reply:Like all other things that has surfaced, the obamabies will have an excuse, for them. They want us to kiss their feet and obey, like they do. I Have But one God. and his name's not obama. And yes, come November it will hurt him bad. like losing.the race.
